English Intro

“Welcome. Let’s stand together in front of this light-and-shadow piece, filled with so much story and warmth. This is titled ‘The Liberation of the Winter Blue.’
Standing in front of this canvas, the sky you feel might at first seem like just a chilly, deep shade of ‘blue’ lingering at the edge of a snowy field. But this painting is actually a story about breaking free from the suffocating limits of a northern winter depression.
So many people have probably tasted this exact feeling—when the endless winter sets in, and the brutal cold and heavy gloom trap you indoors for weeks on end. That claustrophobia, combined with the lack of sunlight, can sometimes make you feel like you are literally suffocating. It’s as if your soul is bound by a thick layer of ice and snow, trapped inside the prison of the winter blues. Those dry, tangled black and brown branches on the canvas? They are the physical shapes of the anxiety and restrictions weaving through our minds.
But the heart of this blue story isn’t despair—it is the act of ‘stepping out.’
The exact second you finally gather the courage to step outside and push your feet into the freezing snow, a miracle happens. Look right at the center of the canvas, just behind that row of barren trees. A blindingly radiant orange-and-gold light is bursting through the sky! The very instant your eyes catch that light, the entire frozen earth is completely illuminated.
Using thick, highly dynamic brushstrokes, I painted the golden reflections of the winter sun pouring over the snow. I piled on even heavier paint and high-contrast colors to express the solid textures and tracks left in the snow. Under the blessing of that light, those once chilly, heavy shadows stretch out long and lose their cruel, gloomy edge. Right at that very moment, a sudden, breath-of-fresh-air feeling of complete liberation takes over, and the depression vanishes. You realize that the suffocating weight that used to plague you, and those dark moods you thought you’d never escape, are actually just like the melting patches of snow on the ground—so small and powerless in front of the winter sun, bound to melt away.
This painting was born on a massive blizzard day in Canada, a northern land where everything shuts down and work grinds to a halt under the weight of the snow. I walked outdoors with my family. What I captured wasn’t just a snowy landscape; it was a state of mind. It wasn’t just the freezing winter temperature, but the deep, cozy warmth of our togetherness. While creating this piece, as I splashed that liberated, free blue across the sky, I was silently making peace with myself in my heart. Life works the same way. Depression and restrictions are sometimes as unavoidable as winter, but as long as we are willing to take that step and walk outside, the light will be there waiting for us.
‘The Liberation of the Winter Blues’ is my blessing to every friend currently enduring a winter in their soul.
When you look into this artwork, I hope you see past the winter’s chill and let that warm sunlight piercing through the branches shine straight into your heart. May we all find the courage to step out, say goodbye to the suffocating gloom, and embrace that beautiful, liberating moment of sudden clarity. Let your life find its clear skies and the strength to move forward once again in the warm sun.”
