Let your eyes wander around with the light and shadow on the canvas. Look down at the leaves beneath your feet—I used grounding dark browns and deep crimsons to layer a thick, solid earth. It feels as if you are already walking on top of it, and you can almost hear that familiar, comforting rustle of fallen leaves crunching beneath your footsteps.

Now, look deeper into the woods at that trickling stream. It carries reflections of royal blue and brilliant white light, flowing peacefully through the shadows of the trees, as if it’s playing a soft, gentle background melody for this quiet afternoon.

And the moment you look up, your vision is flooded by the canopy where the maple leaves intertwine in shades of red, orange, and yellow. The sunlight pierces through the gaps in the leaves, staining the entire treetops into a brilliant gold and a warm, glowing orange. Sometimes, when you go on a trip with family, you don’t need a hectic, jam-packed itinerary. All you need is a single pocket of leisure time to leave behind an eternal memory. We spend so much of our lives rushing down the road, always trying to fill every blank space on our calendars. But when we look back, the moments that truly warm our hearts usually aren’t the distant, famous landmarks we checked off, nor the most exhausting schedules we completed. It’s always a simple afternoon just like this—walking through an autumn forest with the people we love most in this world. Together, we listen to the stream’s melody, watch the maple leaves drift down, and step out a quartet on the fallen leaves… purely enjoying a temporary, worry-free pocket of peace.

This painting was born from a day when my whole family walked through a local park right by our home in Canada. While creating this piece, my heart was overflowing with an indescribable sense of happiness, and I just had to freeze that split second onto the canvas forever. As my brush dotted the overlapping reds and yellows of the maple leaves, my mind was rewinding the laughter from that day and the silhouettes of my family walking ahead. That moment of leisure, in the massive rushing river of time, was just a brief ‘instant.’ But the second it was frozen on this canvas, it became an unbreakable ‘eternity.’
