“Autumn Immersion” invites you to imagine stepping all alone into a deep forest, completely enveloped by crimson maples. As you look around, do you feel it? An almost suffocating sense of “immersion,” as if you are being utterly consumed by color.
While creating this piece, the shifting of nature’s seasons stirred the most intense pulse within my soul. With little hesitation, I picked up my palette knife and brushes, allowing the bold, saturated pigments of autumn to layer upon the canvas. Look at the right side—that crimson and golden yellow burning like wildfire. That is my most direct, intuitive reaction to autumn. It is more than just a landscape; it is the raw, burning imprint of my subjective passion upon the canvas.
To me, autumn in the North has always been an incredibly paradoxical yet utterly enchanting season. The emotions it evokes are interwoven and complex…
On one hand, it brings immense joy and exhilaration. It is life’s unreserved, grand finale in the season of harvest. Across the mountains and fields, red leaves dance under the sun—an eternal flame ignited in the soul for a fleeting moment. It carries a high-pitched, warm, and positive energy that resonates with one’s heartbeat.
Yet, at the same time, as my palette knife and brushes moved through the shadows of the trees and the earth, those heavy, deep tones quietly ushered in a trace of melancholy. It is the subtle chill of recognizing the passage of time after weathering life’s frosts. The solitude before the splendor fades, the whispers of dying cicadas and falling leaves—all settle deep within these textured, mottled layers.
This complex emotion—joyful and ecstatic, yet tinged with a faint sorrow—is the truest form of “immersion” I have experienced. We recognize the truth that the season will eventually fade into bleakness, yet in this very moment, we are still deeply moved by its unreserved passion.
Follow my brushstrokes and guide your eyes to the center of the painting. Between the heavy, dense woods lining both sides, I intentionally left a path—a stream or a trail—leading into the distance.
Using the purest blues and whites, I let light pour down from the edge of the canopy, reflecting upon the water’s surface. This is the light of redemption I found amidst the bewildering haze of colors. No matter how suffocating the darkness on either side may be, and no matter how many storms and hardships fate brings our way, there is always a clear, bright sky waiting for us just around the corner of daily life.
This pathway is the very site where our soul’s conviction erupts. It drives us forward; having endured both the cruelty and the tenderness of the seasons, there is still a force pushing us to stride boldly ahead.
When you stand before this artwork, I hope it evokes fond memories or a longing for autumn in the North. Or perhaps, it serves as a gift to those who are currently experiencing the brilliant peak of autumn in their own life stories—those who might feel anxious and conflicted about the approaching winter chill. Please continue to seize the present and press on toward the goal. Once your direction is right, you are aligned with time itself.
