“I gave this piece a title packed with emotional tension: ‘Nostalgia in a Bowl’

Looking at this painting, you might think it’s just a completely ordinary bowl of beef noodles. You might even wonder if I’m just playing a game of wordplay with the title. But trust me, I’m not trying to be confusing, and I didn’t paint this bowl of noodles just for the sake of it. This painting doesn’t record an appetite; it records the most powerful, immeasurable energy in the universe—a force that transcends dimensions: longing.

The birth of this painting came from a deeply personal moment. It was just a regular day, and that person far away sent me a photo of their lunch—it was this exact bowl of noodles.

Let me tell you why I call it ‘the scene of longing.’
Because the second that photo popped up on my screen, physical distance completely collapsed. I didn’t smell the aroma of the noodles; I sensed that person’s presence. I didn’t see a rich, braised broth; I saw the memories we share. That ‘force of longing’ exploded instantly, like a massive, invisible drive pushing my paintbrush to race across the canvas. This painting is a live record of that emotional explosion.

I also want to show you a life force that is far stronger than the aroma of food.
Look at how I treated this bowl of noodles. I used incredibly rich, heavy colors to layer it up. That piece of beef with tendon, that crisp green bok choy, and that shimmering layer of oil on the broth—I painted them with so much force because I wanted to express this: the drive of longing is far more powerful than any sensory temptation. The scent of noodles only lasts for a moment, but the power of longing can cross thousands of miles of latitude and longitude, pierce through the barrier of time, and strike your soul directly. Science can’t calculate this force, and the universe can hardly measure it.

Do you know the cosmic energy inside each and every one of us?
What this painting truly wants to show is this exact power that lives inside you, inside me, inside all of us. We’ve all been pulled instantly by a massive force because of a text message, a blurry photo, or a familiar silhouette. This power drives us to cross oceans just to see someone, and keeps us waiting for a love in the middle of time’s rushing river. This ‘drive of longing’ is the most precious instinct we have as human beings.

I believe you can already feel the emotional vessel under my brush.
I deliberately chose this everyday scene just to tell you: sacred energy is often hidden in the most mundane routines. Through this painting, I’ve locked that longing, that craving, and that warmth inside these colors. When you look at this bowl of noodles, I hope you receive more than just visual satisfaction. I want you to feel that sleeping drive inside your own body, ready to burst out at any second.

This painting is the physical manifestation of my thoughts for someone far away.
Please, close your eyes, and let this bowl of noodles take you back to ‘the scene’ in your own heart. Go ahead and embrace that longing. Because that is the gentlest, most unbreakable proof of our existence in this universe.

Often, it is longing that truly keeps us moving forward.”
