“I gave this piece a title that is both romantic and a little playful: ‘Moonlight Dancing with the Waves.’
In my exhibition, many works explore life’s conflicts, sprints, or the massive torrent of time. But this painting is very different. I want to take you into a midnight theater that is incredibly light, cute, and even a bit mischievous.
Take a look at the sea in front of us. In your mind, what does the ocean look like in the dead of night? Is it deep, dangerous, or quiet?
But in ‘Moonlight Dancing with the Waves,’ I wanted to show you the most emotional, child-like side of the ocean. This is a piece painted with a very light, adorable, and slightly playful vibe.
I’d like everyone to focus on that golden-white glow at the top of the canvas—that’s tonight’s moonlight. The exact second this beam of moonlight quietly pours onto the surging waves, something magical happens.
Look closely. I used thick layers of paint and highly dynamic brushstrokes to build up those churning, crashing white caps. This isn’t a storm; it’s a party. Right here, right now, the moonlight in the sky and the tides on the sea are teasing and flirting with each other.
One moment they cling close, the next they pull apart. The moonlight breaks into pieces with the rise of the waves, and then glues itself back together when the sea calms down. Nobody else knows about this subtle interaction. The beach is completely empty at midnight. It’s as if the world has stopped, and only the two of them are having the time of their lives under the night sky, dancing to their own secret choreography.
We constantly live in the eyes of others, keeping score of right and wrong, weighing costs and benefits. But honestly, the moments that truly touch our hearts in life usually come from those tiny, private joys that don’t need to make sense to anyone else. You don’t need to prove how happy you are to the whole world. Just like this bright moon and the wild waves—the world is fast asleep, but ‘who cares, as long as we’re having fun?’
In front of the person who gets you, on the exact right frequency, that kind of pure joy is completely irreplaceable.
Sure, the tide will eventually recede, and the moon will eventually sink. This ball seems temporary. But to me, the very instant this brief dance is frozen on the canvas, it leaves behind an eternal memory.
‘Moonlight Dancing with the Waves’ is a gentle gift I made for myself, and for every onlooker, on a quiet night.
When you stare into this painting, I hope you can take off the heavy armor of daily life and just feel that lightness and joy. On your long journey through life, may you also find that rhythm that makes your soul dance, enjoy those simple pleasures, and lock away an eternal, beautiful memory in your heart.”
